Returning to Arlington National Cemetery July 2016

In 2003 I met 9th Division Veteran Larry Faulkner for the first time at a 9th Division Reunion in Lancaster Pennsylvania.
We were introduced by my local Philadelphia friend, (9th Division veteran), Al Perna. What
immediately struck me was Larry's
straight forward speaking style,
typical of the dialogue spoken in Harlan Kansas, (Larry's birthplace). Explaining my presence
with photographs, (looking for anyone who might remember my Dad), Larry was moved by my mission and we quickly became
good friends. It
was a few years later, (after my retirement), that I visited Larry
on two occasions in Simi Valley, California.
Larry Faulkner and Joe Barnett were the first two veterans I interviewed which would eventually lead to an eight year search
for other veterans who fought in North Africa facing combat for the first time against seasoned veterans of the Afrika Korps.
